Version 0.3.0: the main story, Ascension at level 50 and the road to the Mountain of Fate

The main story. You wake in the Forest of Beginnings with nothing but a rusty knife. The village elder saw a light fall that night, Heilgrun the swamp witch finds something in you that frightens her, and Dr. Acula would very much like a friendly duel to the death. The story is told in quests, scenes and story cards – and it goes on across your lives. We won’t say more here.

Ascension at level 50. Rebirth is now the Ascension: from level 50 in Foundation Establishment you ascend on the summit of the Mountain of Fate. Choose a new first name, race and look and awaken in the forest – the world has forgotten you, your family name stays. Everything you carried and all your gold wait in the new Ascension Vault; take things out whenever you like. The Ancestral Shrine is now the Soul Shrine with the Soul Tree, and your past characters appear as Former Lives. Each Ascension grants one Memory Fragment.

Five new places in the north.

  • The Cliffs (level 20–35): take the mule track from the village. Ore, mountain goats, vultures and cave trolls, the steel pickaxe and the Cave Troll Chieftain.
  • Castle Acula (level 30–45): across the bridge or by Acula’s coach. The dungeon “A Friendly Duel” ends in the tower hall – party mates can join the final fight with their own entry and their own chest.
  • The Last Bite (from level 40): Tessa’s roadhouse. Deliver meat, herbs and fish for stamps and trade them for gear, weapons and skins.
  • Mountain of Fate (level 42–56): spirits on the slopes, the Spirit of Fate, a pilgrim hut – and the summit.
  • The Temple (level 60–72): monks, Jizo and the Golden Core realm. How to find the path? That’s part of the story.

Gear and loot. Four new gear tiers (Cliffs, Castle, Mountain, Temple), the epic set Acula’s Evening Wear, new uniques, and seven rarity tiers: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary and the shimmering Celestial and Godlike. Mythic pieces became Epic.

Also: if you fall in the north, you wake at the nearest rest stop; repairs are available at the castle and the temple; group bosses now scale with their own tuning per party size; new hidden boss achievements with badges.

Version 0.2.1: group fights in the game window, class gear and new class art

Group fights, fully playable. Party frames show every hero’s HP, mana, stamina and threat, and the round timer shows who the round is still waiting for. Change your pick until the round resolves, defend, see area attacks coming – and join a party mate’s fight straight from their party card.

Class gear. From level 15, every class crafts its own four-piece set: Path of the Crane (Monk), Oathbound (Warrior), Five Currents (Sorcerer) and Windrunner (Archer). Two pieces add an attribute, all four a class effect such as life steal or thorns. Only heroes of that class can wear the pieces, and the auction house filters by class.

New class art. All 16 class figures – four classes, human and elf, female and male – are new, larger pixel art.

Sets at a glance. Set pieces are marked in blue, active set bonuses in green. Crafting tags set recipes and shows their bonuses.

Also: this website has a new look, and joining a group fight that had already lapsed no longer causes an error.

Version 0.2.0: parties, group fights and classes from level 15

Parties. Invite up to three friends or join a public party on your map. Party mates on the same map share a slice of each other’s EXP – without a cap.

Group fights. Join a party mate’s running fight with one click, even against a boss. Everyone picks an action within 30 seconds, then the round resolves. Threat decides who gets hit; Warriors can draw attacks with the new skill Challenge, and bosses like the Slime King now answer with area attacks.

Classes from level 15. The trial at the Ancestral Shrine now opens at level 15 instead of 20.

Also new: the Softfur Set as the first crafted set of the Forest of Beginnings, cheaper upgrades at the smithy, and less EXP from enemies far below your level.
